Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a dynamic Senior Design Engineering Manager in our growing Design Management group to support our major infrastructure design build work. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines. This division of Kiewit focuses on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects.

As a Senior Design Engineering Manager, you will manage design on design-build infrastructure pursuits and projects, including transportation, transit, technical bridge, hydro-electric, and water/water resources projects. You will provide mentoring and oversight to Design Manager(s) responsible for administering, assisting, and managing design to meet project financial, schedule, and construction objectives, consistent with Kiewit's Standard Operating Procedures.

District Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team drives clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs, and minimize risk. Our construction-focused engineers collaborate with estimators and builders to design innovative and constructible solutions, with a focus on safety.

Responsibilities

  • Manage staff and activities for a project of significant size and complexity, developing staffing plans and schedules.
  • Lead and manage a team of Kiewit design engineers, estimators, and subconsultants.
  • Work closely with Business Line Management to leverage existing relationships with sub-consultants and owners.
  • Participate in development and negotiation of teaming agreements between subconsultants.
  • Assist with preparation and review of SOQs before shortlisting.
  • Facilitate work planning activities and oversee pre-award man-hour development.
  • Ensure project controls measures are implemented and conduct periodic project reviews.
  • Lead transition from pre-award to post-award work planning and resource scheduling.
  • Manage the design team to ensure the scope is met while producing quality deliverables.
  • Plan, direct, and supervise assigned personnel activities.
  • Ensure compliance with contract agreements and maintain cost/schedule control.
  • Lead integration of risk/change management processes.
  • Develop action plans with timelines to implement strategy.
  • Interface and maintain relationships with the Owner, Kiewit operating districts, and design partners.
  • Mentor and develop technical capabilities of mid-level and junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Civil Engineering with a focus on transportation.
  • Professional Engineer license required, with the ability to obtain in other states as needed.
  • 15 years of directly related experience, with at least five years in a Design Manager position on large complex multidisciplinary projects.
  • Successful completion of management role in delivery of projects in excess of $500 million in construction value.
  • 10 years of specific experience in delivery of design-build and/or P3 projects.
  • 5 or more years of managing an engineering and design team.
  • Ability to travel regionally as business necessitates.

Base Compensation: $190,000 - $220,000

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
