Job Description

ASSYST is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to design, develop, and maintain advanced data visualization solutions using Microsoft Power BI. This role focuses on building complex reports and dashboards to deliver actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making. The developer will collaborate closely with business analysts, data engineers, and stakeholders to gather requirements, build optimized data models, and ensure data accuracy and performance.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Power BI, DAX, and Power Query along with experience working with Oracle, SQL databases, Azure services, and APIs. They will be responsible for optimizing visualizations for efficiency, scalability, and user experience, while ensuring compliance with security and governance policies. Strong communication skills and the ability to translate business needs into effective technical solutions are essential.

Job Title: Senior Power BI Developer
Location: Laurel, MD 20707(Hybrid - 3 days onsite 2 days remote)

Responsibilities:

  • Develop complex Power BI reports and dashboards to provide actionable insights for business decisions.
  • Create and optimize data models to ensure high performance and accurate business metric representation.
  • Write and fine-tune advanced DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) queries for dynamic, scalable measures.
  • Use Power Query to perform data transformation, cleansing, and integration from multiple sources.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, data engineers, and stakeholders to gather requirements and create technical solutions.
  • Connect Power BI with multiple data sources, including Oracle, SQL databases, Azure Data Lakes, Excel, and APIs.
  • Optimize report and dashboard performance by tuning queries, improving data models, and following best practices.
  • Implement row-level security (RLS) and other access controls within Power BI to ensure secure data access.
  • Manage the Power BI service, including user permissions, workspace management, and report usage monitoring.
  • Set up and manage scheduled data refreshes for live dashboards and reports.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to data inconsistencies, report accuracy, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Provide training and ongoing support to end-users to promote Power BI adoption and usage.
  • Maintain documentation for data models, report designs, and Power BI environments.
  • Implement version control and change management for reports and models to ensure smooth transitions and updates.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest Power BI features and best practices to continuously improve reporting capabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance frameworks and maintain the quality and security of reports.
  • Leverage experience with Azure Cloud to enhance data integration and reporting solutions.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in developing and maintaining data solutions.
  • Experience in enterprise-level applications and large-scale data projects.
  • Industry experience in water and wastewater utilities with knowledge of Oracle utility applications is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work on analytics, business intelligence, and enterprise systems in diverse team environments.
  • Extensive experience with data modeling and database design.
  • Expertise in implementing enterprise-wide analytics solutions with data integration from multiple systems.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, and Oracle databases with performance optimization and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks to ensure data integrity, quality, and security.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially with complex datasets.
